Bajan or Barbadian Creole, as it is known to linguists, is an English based Creole spoken in Barbados. Bajan is an amalgamation of English, some African words along with indigenous Bajan / West Indian words. Words like fête and chichiman are words brought to Barbados from other islands like Trinidad and Jamaica, fête comming from Trinidad and chichiman from Jamaica. 13,000 people in Barbados speak just English while the rest speak both English and Bajan. English is only used when talking formally or to tourists the rest of the times people in Barbados speak Bajan.
