Also along the Back road, is the famed Coll Pottery (''Fear an Eich'') - open to the public and also the cairn at Gress. Lord Leverhulme had great plans for the road and was in the process of building an extention to it so that it reached Ness - however just then, he left Lewis in a hurry. Hence at the end of the road is the "Bridge To Nowhere" - a fine 1920s construction which is an interesting anomaly. Nowadays this leads onto a footpath which indeed reaches Ness. EXTERNAL LINKS |
