BBC South Today is the BBC 's regional television news programme for Dorset , Hampshire , The Isle Of Wight and West Sussex ; it also covers parts of Berkshire , Oxfordshire , Surrey and Wiltshire . Launched in the early 1970s, it goes out ten times a day from Monday to Friday: 6 bulletins in the morning during BBC Breakfast, a bulletin at 15:25, a 15-minute programme at 13:30, the half-hour main programme at 18:30, and a 5-minute update at 22:25. The programme is broadcast live from studios in Southampton . Since October 2000, South Today has also covered the area served by the Oxford transmitter. Monday to Friday, Geraldine Peers presents South Today from Oxford. The programme covers the first ten to fifteen minutes of South Today at six thirty, before rejoining Sally Taylor for the second half of the programme. South Today Oxford serves viewers in Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Swindon as well as parts of Northamptonshire and the Cotswolds . Viewers in the region receive a dedicated service during the Ten O'Clock News but see bulletins from Southampton at breakfast, lunchtime and weekends. The Oxford service started when BBC Newsroom South East was replaced by BBC London and BBC South East Today (based in Tunbridge Wells ). BBC South Today switched to the BBC generic look on 22 May 2000 , it was revamped again on 16 September 2002 and again on 8 August 2005 , thought it didn't adopt a new studio until 3 October 2005 .
