Authorized Foreign Decorations Of The United States Military

In most cases, foreign awards are bestowed when the United States is allied to another nation and engaged in joint military operations. The greatest number of foreign award bestowals took place during World War II when no fewer than fifteen nations bestowed various awards to U.S. military service members. During the Vietnam War , the heavy involvement and close alliance with South Vietnam eventually granted the award of nearly every Vietnamese decoration, in one way or another, to United States troops.

The following is a list of foreign decorations which have been approved for wear on United States military uniforms. Such awards are always worn after all United States Decorations and International Military Awards . The list below is by no means comprehensive, but does display the awards which have been most commonly bestowed to U.S. service members by the governments of foreign countries.
