Auchinleck (sometimes pronounced Affleck) is a town with a population of ca. 3,900 situated 8km south-east of Mauchline , and a few km north-west of Cumnock in East Ayrshire , Scotland . Near the city is Auchinleck House , sometime home of the Lawyer , Diarist and Biographer James Boswell , 9th Laird of Auchinleck.
