Associated Food Stores, based in Salt Lake City, Utah is a Retailers' Cooperative that supplies about 600 independently-owned Supermarket s in an 8-state region. It was founded in 1940 by Donald P. Lloyd , president of the Utah Retail Grocers Association , and 34 retailers. In addition to serving independent retailers, it also has corporate-owned stores (Dan's, Dick's Lin's and Macey's) and heavily advertises the Western Family name.
