Artur Ekert (born 19 September 1961 in Wrocław , Poland ) is a Leigh-Trapnell Professor of Quantum Physics at Cambridge University . He is one of the pioneers of Quantum Cryptography . For his work on Entanglement based quantum key distribution he was awarded the 1995 Maxwell Medal And Prize of the Institute Of Physics . He is also a co-recipient of the 2004 EU Descartes Prize .
