Arrow Dynamics was a Roller Coaster design company based in Clearfield, Utah . In 2002 , it went into Bankruptcy and was acquired by S&S Power , another Theme Park ride designer. Arrow Dynamics was founded in 1946 but did not enter the amusement industry until 1960's. The company constructed the world's first tubular steel track Roller Coaster , the Matterhorn Bobsleds at Disneyland . Arrow Dynamics were the front runners in the modern coaster era. They introduced the first modern looping coaster, the Corkscrew at Knott's Berry Farm , plus they also built several runaway mine train rides and suspended swinging coasters around the country. Their last big pioneering move for the industry was in the early 1990's with the introduction of hypercoasters, beginning with Cedar Point 's Magnum XL 200 . A hypercoaster is a steel coaster over 200ft tall, built primarily for height and speed rather than loops. Arrow built 8 of these speed coasters before other companies began producing their own. Although the competition did not initially introduce any new challenging innovations, it was not long before Arrow was facing bankruptcy. Their final effort to keep ahead or even afloat was the design and construction of X , the first 4th-dimension roller coaster in the world, located at Six Flags Magic Mountain . It was one of the last roller coasters to be completed by them. The company filed for bankruptcy in December of 2001 and in October of 2002 their assets were sold to amusement ride manufacurer S&S power. Arrow dynamics built slightly over 100 roller coasters of varied style but are most notable for their influence on the amusement industry with the design and manufacturing of their roller coasters. |
