Information About

Argenta, Italy

The town was founded by the Romans . It is in a predominantly flat agricultural region and is near, and at times at the edge of, the Comacchio lagoon wetlands.

The town was the site of several battles over the centuries, the last being in April 1945 when the area was defended by the Germans against the Allied advance ( Operation Roast ). Much of the Comacchio lagoon is today a wildlife sanctuary and Argenta is home of the Marsh Museum which offers many facilities for bird study.
