Ardahan ( "Ardı Han" in old Turkish , the name deriving from a Seljuk "Han" (or Caravanserai ) located nearby the city) is a city in north-eastern Turkey, near the Georgian border and the seat of Ardahan Province . Its other historical names include Ардаган (Ardagan) in Russian (Russian language has a tendency to switch the "h" or "kh" sounds to "g" as in Gadflies Armenian Արդահան and Georgian . With a population of 17,274 ( 2000 census) it is the smallest provincial capital in Turkey.
