Information About

Anglo-scottish Cup

Following the demise of the Texaco Cup, the Anglo-Scottish Cup was introduced. This had a similar format to its predecessor but involved clubs from England and Scotland only. Over the years English entrants were increasingly drawn from the lower divisions and in 1981 the Scottish clubs withdrew as the public showed little interest in the competition. The competition continued with English clubs only as the Football League Group Trophy .

The finals were played over two legs, with the winner being the team with the highest aggregate score.

The final tournament in 1981 had a Preliminary round, in which there were four groups of four; the winner of these groups then joined four Scottish teams at the quarter-final stage. In the groups, teams got one extra point for scoring 3 or more goals in a single match. Those who entered were Chesterfield , Grimsby Town , Hull City , Sheffield United , ''' Notts County ''', Bristol City , Orient , Fulham , ''' Bury ''', Burnley , Shrewsbury Town , Oldham Athletic , ''' Blackpool ''', Blackburn Rovers , Preston North End and Carlisle United (those in bold qualified for the quarter-finals).

The results of the quarter- and semi-finals and final were as follows:
