Anadyr () is the administrative centre of Chukotka Autonomous District , at the extreme north-east of Russia . It is located at the mouth of the Anadyr River , at . It was founded on August 3 , 1889 as '''Novo-Mariinsk''', and was renamed to its present name in on August 5 , 1923 . The town status was granted on January 12 , 1965 .
