American Missionary Association




The American Missionary Organization was a Christian Evangelical Abolitionist group founded on September, 3 1846 . The main purpose of this organization was to eliminate Slavery , to educate African-American s, to promote racial equality, and to promote Christian values. This organization faded away shortly after 1947 due to a lack of funds.

The organization started the American Missionary magazine, which published from 1846 through 1934.

Colleges that were founded by the American Missionary Association include Atlanta University (1865) and Fisk University (1866), and with the Freedmen's Bureau helped to establish Howard University in Washington, D.C.
