ADF was founded in 1994 by the leaders of more than 30 Christian ministries, primarily as an organization to oppose the actions of liberal groups in the United States, especially the ACLU . The ADF claims that individuals are denied their religious freedom and free speech rights when they are not allowed to express Christian beliefs where and when they choose in public venues. The ADF asserts the right of groups, both private and public, to exclude participants based on religious beliefs. The group has primarily focused its efforts on taking legal action for the right of Christians to promote their beliefs in public schools and universities. The ADF provides legal support, training, and funding to Evangelical groups, with somewhat notable emphasis on opposing Gay , Lesbian , and Pro-choice political actions. ADF has been involved in such cases as '' Rosenberger V. Rector And Visitors Of The University Of Virginia '', '' Schenck V. Pro-Choice Network '', '' Boy Scouts Of America V. Dale '', and '' Good News Club V. Milford Central Schools ''. In 2004 , ADF's budget was $20,581,560. ORGANIZATION In addition to ADF's principal office in Scottsdale, Arizona, it has six Regional Service Centers, located in Sacramento, California; Lawrenceville, Georgia, Shreveport, Louisiana; Memphis, Tennessee; Washington, DC; and Olathe, Kansas. ADF's President, CEO and General Counsel is Alan Sears . Sears held several positions in the Department of Justice during the Reagan administration, including serving as the Executive Director of the Attorney General’s Commission on Pornography, and has co-authored two books with Craig Osten: ''The Homosexual Agenda: Exposing the Principal Threat to Religious Freedom Today'', and ''The ACLU vs. America: Exposing the Agenda to Redefine Moral Values'' {Link without Title} . " DAY OF TRUTH " The ADF provides support to the annual counter protest "Day of Truth" ( site ) which was founded to oppose the Day Of Silence organized by the Gay, Lesbian And Straight Education Network . The Day of Truth event encourages teen-aged Christians, on the day following the GLBT protest, to organize and express their opposition to what they feel is the "homosexual agenda" at their school, and to possibly take legal action against the school on first amendment grounds if they are prevented from doing so. The event is currently very small in scope, with an estimated 1,100 participants in 2005, and has yet to produce a court case. SEE ALSO
