Information About

Alexandre Coste

Éric Alexandre Stéphane Coste (born 24 August , 2003 in Paris ) is the son of Albert II, Prince Of Monaco , and his former Lover , Nicole Coste , a native of Togo in west Africa .

He was born Éric Alexander Tossoukpé. His mother changed her and his surname to ''Coste'' on 10 November , 2004 . She also changed the spelling of Alexander to Alexandre to match his father Albert's middle name and added Stéphane as an additional middle name for Éric. While Nicole addresses her son as Alexandre in the media to stress the connection to his famous father, his legal name remains Éric Alexandre. He has two older half-brothers who live with their father, Nicole's ex-husband, in South America.

On 6 July , 2005 , six days before he was enthroned on 12 July , Albert officially confirmed via his lawyer Thierry Lacoste Paternity .

Éric Alexandre is not in the line of succession as he is considered illegitimate. Monaco law specifies only "direct and legitimate" descendants can assume the throne. Under the current Constitution Of Monaco , Alexandre can only become legitimized by his father Albert marrying his mother Nicole.

However, Albert could change the Constitution and thus legitimize him through legislation. If he were legitimized, as the oldest son of Albert, Eric Alexandre would become the Heir Apparent . He would also be put first in the line of succession and have the title of Hereditary Prince Eric.He would also be given the last name Grimaldi.

On 26 October , 2005 , Albert gave an interview to USA television personality Larry King in which he said his son would not be in line for the Monegasque throne nor would he ever bear the Grimaldi name. Éric Alexandre will, however, have inheritance rights to the Grimaldi family fortune and his father's estate under French law.

Should Albert never marry or not have any legitimate issue, Eric Alexandre remains an option if Albert would want to preclude the accession of his nephew, Andrea Casiraghi through his sister Caroline Of Hanover . In the King interview, Albert said he would "review the situation" should it occur.
