In 1977 she, along with Fernando Márquez, Nacho Canut , Carlos Berlanga and Enrique Sierra, among others, formed the band Kaka De Luxe , one of the first Spanish Punk Rock bands. In 1979 Gara, Canut, Berlanga and others formed the band Alaska y los Pegamoides, and in 1982 changed their name to Alaska y Dinarama. In 1989 Carlos Berlanga left, and the band transformed once again, this time adopting the name of Fangoria . With each name change, the band has been driving away from punk and embracing electronic pop, although strong guitars are normally present in their performances.

In the last part of the 1980s Alaska was the host of the hip children's TV Show '' La Bola De Cristal ''.

In 2002, singer Thalía produced a very successful version of Alaska's single ''A quién le importa'' that reached the ninth spot in the Latin singles chart that year.
