Information About

Adolf Etolin

Some historians believe that Etolin traveled from Russia to America with Vasily Golovnin in the ''Kamchatka'' in 1817 , but no records currently known corroborate this.

He served from 1818 to 1825 as a ship master. Etolin was part of a group that surveyed the Bering Sea in 1822 to 1824 . He was the adjutant for the governor of the Russian American colonies in 1834 . He became governor of the Russian-American Company colonies in 1840 to 1845 . He was a member of the board of the Russian-American Company in Saint Petersburg , Russia from 1847 to 1859 .

An island in Alaska , Etolin Island , is named after Etolin, as are a cape, a point, and a mountain.
