AMR Corporation () is a Fort Worth, Texas -based holding company created in 1982 as part of a reorganization of American Airlines . Its name is derived from the former American Airlines ticker symbol on the New York Stock Exchange , AMR.

AMR also owns 2 , and Executive Air (American's other commuter affiliate, American Connection , is independent of AMR). The Chairman and CEO of AMR and AA is Gerard Arpey .

AMERICAN AIRLINES FOUNDATION

The AMR Corporation sponsors the AMR/American Airlines Foundation, a grant-making foundation which supports charitable causes in cities served by AA, in particular the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex , Chicago, Illinois , Miami, Florida , and San Juan, Puerto Rico .
