NATIONAL TEAM

The '' Samurai '' are Japan's national team.

Japan competed in the Australian Football International Cup in 2003 (finishing 10th out of 11 competing countries) and 2005 (finishing 7th out of 10 competing countries) with remarkable improvement and depth in talent.

The Samurai's best and fairest player (from the 2005 International Cup) was Michito Sakaki . Sasaki, along with teammate Tsuyoshi Kase was later invited to join the Australian Football League / Australian Institute Of Sport academy camp in Canberra . Essendon Football Club coach Kevin Sheedy extended an invitation for the pair to join in training sessions with the possibility of playing in the annual 16-a-side match played against Sydney in February 2006. The two are part of a trial to place the talented internationals in a feeder league for the Bombers, the Bendigo Bombers Football Club .
