Information About

A7 Road

The A7 is a major trunk road in the United Kingdom , that runs south from Edinburgh in Scotland to Carlisle in north-western England . The A7 begins its course in central Edinburgh, before passing through the city's south-eastern suburbs - on this part of the route it passes Cameron Toll - and then meeting the A720 (Edinburgh's ring-road), and the A68 at the notoriously busy Sherifhall Roundabout.

The A7 travels through the Borders towns of Galashiels , Selkirk and Hawick , through Langholm in Dumfries And Galloway , before crossing the border into England , into the county of Cumbria , just south of the village of Canonbie . It then continues through the small town of Longtown , before meeting the A74 Road , the A689 Road and the M6 Motorway at the Greymoorhill Roundabout, which is junction 44 of the M6, and currently the motorway's last junction (although this may change after the M6 is extended northwards to Gretna ).

Beyond Greymoorhill, the A7 is briefly dual carriageway, close to the Kingstown Industrial Estate on the northern fringe of Carlisle . Continuing as a busy single carriageway road, it passes several main Supermarket s, and crosses the River Eden over Eden Bridge. At Hardwicke Circus, a large Roundabout junction, the A7 finally terminates, meeting the A6 Road (the historic route to London ), and the A595 to west and southern Cumbria.
