The 2000 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament involved 64 schools playing in Single-elimination play to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I College Basketball . It began on March 1 , 2000 , and ended with the championship game on April 3 in Indianapolis, Indiana . A total of 63 games were played. Michigan State , coached by Tom Izzo , won the national title with a 89-76 victory in the final game over Florida , coached by Billy Donovan .
