1995-96 Nhl Season




This was the first season for the Avalanche, who were previously known as the Quebec Nordiques . This was also the last season for the Winnipeg Jets , as they announced that they would move from Manitoba to Arizona and become the Phoenix Coyotes .

The 1995-96 NHL season was the last season (as of 2006 ) in which the defending champion (the New Jersey Devils ) didn't make it to the playoffs, finishing two points behind the Tampa Bay Lightning for the 8th and final playoff spot.
