• Oakland reliever Darold Knowles became the only pitcher to appear in every game of a seven-game World Series.


• The Mets had the lowest winning percentage of any team to ever play in a World Series. They had only the ninth-best record in the 24-team majors behind Oakland, the Cincinnati Reds (who they beat in the NLCS), Baltimore Orioles (who was defeated by Oakland in the ALCS), Los Angeles Dodgers , San Francisco Giants , Boston Red Sox , Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals (none of whom made the postseason).
