1964 State Highway Renumbering (washington)

In 1964 , the Washington State Department Of Transportation (WSDOT) created a new numbering system, the State Route system, out of the existing Primary State Highways (PSH) and '''Secondary State Highways (SSH)''' system. The new system, called '''State Routes''' or '''Signed Routes''', consolidated and created a more organized and systematic method of numbering the highways within the state. The system also introduced accordance with the new Interstate Highway system, with the creation of Interstate 5 within the state.

ROUTE RENUMERATION

State Routes

State Route 3 was created from the junction with U.S. Route 101 at Shelton, Washington to the junction with State Route 104 and the Hood Canal Bridge out of SSH 14A and PSH 21.

State Route 6 was created from the junction with U.S. Route 101 at Raymond, Washington to the junction with Interstate 5 at Chehalis, Washington .

State Route 7 was created from the juntion with State Route 14 at Kosmos, Washington to the junction with Interstate 5 at Tacoma, Washington from PSH 5.

State Route 9 was created from the junction with State Route 522 at Sedro-Woolley, Washington to the Canadian border out of SSHs 1A and PSH 1.

State Route 10 was created from the junction with State Route 99 in Seattle, Washington to the Idaho State Line out of PSH 2, 3, 7, 11, and 18.

State Route 11 was created from the junction with Interstate 5 at Burlington, Washington to Interstate 5 again in Bellingham, Washington out of PSH 1.

State Route 12 was created from the junction with State Route 830 at Maryhill, Washington to the junction with State Route 410 at Oak Flat, Washington .

State Route 14 was created from the junction with Interstate 5 at Tacoma, Washington to the junction with State Route 3 at Gorst, Washington .

Interstate Highways

Interstate 5 was created from Oregon to Canada from PSH 1.

U.S. Routes

U.S. Route 2 was created from the junction of SR-520 to the Idaho border out of PSHs 15, 2, 2, 3, and 6.

U.S. Route 101 was created from the Oregon border to the junction with Interstate 5 at Tumwater, Washington out of PSH 12, 13, and 9.

U.S. Route 395 was created from the Oregon border at Pasco, Washington to Canada out of PSH 3 and 11.
