The 1920 season was a below average season with only four tropical cyclones forming in the Atlantic Basin. It had one of the shortest seasons of duration, with the activity occurring in a 23 day period. All of them were Hurricane s but none reached major hurricane status ( Category 3 or above). A Category 2 struck Central America and Cozumel, Mexico as a Tropical Storm and made landfall near Dulac, Louisiana , causing over $1 million in damage and one death. A Category 1 struck Cape Fear , North Carolina and a tropical storm struck Cedar Key, Florida . The strongest storm of the season was the first one to form. It was another Category 2 and a Cape Verde-type Hurricane that formed in the eastern Atlantic; it stayed well out to sea while nearly reaching Category 3 status. Maximum winds were 95 Kt (110 Mph ).
