New South Wales Rugby League goes into its second season. Cumberland who were one of the nine original teams in the NSWRL competition in 1908, ended up being absorbed by Western Suburbs Magpies , and hence remain the shortest lived NSWRL/ARL/SL/NRL club, playing a mere 8 games.

November 30 - A goal is scored in the St. Andrew's Day match of the Eton Wall Game at Eton College . As Of 2003 , no more goals have been scored in the St. Andrew's day game (which is the most important match of the year) but points have been scored by other methods.
